Apple iPhone 5 completes 6 years after launch


With this year's most advanced iPhone XS and XR phones getting rave reviews, Apple quietly announced that its iPhone 6, which has been around for six years - was once considered the world's most advanced smartphone - is outdated.

On Tuesday, the iPhone 5 was added to Apple's "old-fashioned and outdated" product list, noting that the hardware is now considered old-fashioned in the US and outdated in other parts of the world. Equipment belonging to the “Year” category (defined as a product in production for more than five years but less than seven years) is not covered by ongoing maintenance support, except in areas where local laws prohibit such prohibitions.

Mac Otakara noted the addition of Apple product support documents on Wednesday.

Apple introduced the iPhone 5 for the first time in a special media event in 2012. The 4-inch phone is Apple's first smartphone to get rid of the 3.5-inch screen size, which determines the size of the iPhone's fifth-generation device. When iOS 11 was released last year, Apple cut off iOS support for legacy devices for the iPhone 5 and other 32-bit processors.
